Abstract: A brief review is given of the papers presented at the First All-Union Conference on the Interaction of Laser Radiation with Liquid Crystals, which was held in Dilizhan (Armenian SSR) on October 23–27, 1978. The following topics were discussed at the Conference: laser spectroscopy of liquid crystals, theory of propagation of light waves in liquid crystals, optical methods for investigating phase transitions in liquid crystals, nonlinear optics of liquid crystals, liquid crystal lasers.
