Effect of high-power ultraviolet laser radiation on nucleic acid bases

Abstract: An investigation was made of the mechanism of two-stage photodecomposition of nucleic acid bases in an aqueous solution exposed to high-power ultraviolet laser radiation. Dependences of the photodecomposition efficiency on the radiation intensity have been obtained. By comparing the experimental dependences with a theoretical model, it was possible to determine various characteristics of excited molecular states of nucleic acid bases.
