Abstract:
An analysis is made of the reflection of surface light waves from waveguide Bragg mirrors. Numerical calculations are used to show that an asymmetric profile of grooves in such a periodic structure makes it possible to construct Bragg mirrors with characteristics which vary considerably as a result of a change in the sign of the asymmetry of the periodic structure profile or as a result of reversal of the direction of propagation of the initial wave. A physical interpretation of the effect is given. Some potential applications are indicated.
