Abstract: A significant increase in the photosensitivity of germanosilicate glass to UV radiation from an argon laser (351 nm) was observed after its treatment in hydrogen. An investigation of the ESR spectra of irradiated hydrogen-saturated samples provided unequivocal evidence of a photochemical reaction of oxygen-deficit germanium centres with hydrogen.
