Abstract:
It is shown that the formation of a waveguide behind the front of a shock wave makes it possible to amplify radiation in high-pressure $H_2$–$F_2$ mixtures. Amplification is predicted for a wide range of initial pressures in the mixture. In a zone where the populations are inverted the concentration of excited particles should reach $\sim10^{19}$ cm$^{-3}$ and the gain of the guided modes should be $\gtrsim10^{-2}$ cm $^{-1}$.
