Liquid media for stimulated Brillouin scattering in the middle infrared

Abstract: An analysis is made of the feasibility of stimulated Brillouin scattering in liquids and gases in the middle infrared. Estimates made of the threshold gain and the hypersound decay time are promising for liquid I2 and Br2 if the absorption coefficient of these liquids is fairly low (less than 0.03–0.01 cm–1). This coefficient has not yet been determined accurately.
