Abstract:
A laser with a nonlinear resonator is proposed. Phase self-modulation in an optical fiber makes it possible to realize effective passive mode locking. Numerical calculations are used to show that the proposed system is feasible irrespective of the sign of the dispersion and steady-state solutions are found. Since the radiation parameters depend on the nonreciprocal phase introduced into the resonator, such a laser can not only emit short pulses, but can also be used to measure magnetic fields and the rotation velocity.
