Abstract: A method was developed for measuring the optical losses in fibers of diameters in excess of 50 μ in the wavelength range 1–8 μ under the influence of various external agencies. The adsorption of moisture had a considerable influence on the transparency of arsenic sulfide fibers without cladding. It was found that infrared radiation (1.15 μ) in glassy arsenic sulfide fibers could be modulated by the action of radiation of < Eg energy on the fiber.
