Abstract:
A preliminary experimental investigation was made of the stimulated Raman scattering in liquid SF6 at room temperature and saturation vapor pressure of 23 kg/cm2. Pumping with ruby laser pulses of 50 nsec duration excited the first and second Stokes components of the scattering at thresholds of 18 and 30 MW/cm2, respectively. The Mandel'shtam–Brillouin scattering thresholds of SF6 were found to depend strongly on the temperature because the medium was close to the critical state.
