Spatial locking of laser modes

Abstract: It is shown that coherent wave fields in the form of a locked superposition of oscillations of degenerate transverse modes can be established in a laser resonator. This approach can be used to reduce the number of frequencies emitted by the laser and to improve the angular divergence of the output radiation.
