Abstract:
The scaling laws are derived for the gain and saturation parameter of similar electric-discharge carbon monoxide lasers. The Doppler, Lorentzian, and mixed (Voigt) mechanisms of spectral line broadening are considered. The scaling laws are compared with the measured output power and gain of CO lasers which had cylindrical chambers of different diameters. The results obtained in this way agreed, within the limits of the experimental error, with the theoretical predictions.
