Abstract:
A parametric instability of counterpropagating homogeneous (over the transverse cross section) beams from a YAG:Nd3+ laser was induced by a thermal nonlinearity of a nematic liquid crystal. It was found that parametric oscillation in media with a local slow-response nonlinearity could develop only because of large-scale perturbations of the refractive index, giving rise to side satellites of the pump radiation.
