Mode structure and thresholds for a mutual phase conjugator with thin nonlinear layers

Abstract: A theoretical investigation is reported of the suppression of noise waves in a thin-layer mutual conjugator. The methods of matrix and wave optics are used to show that the displacement of thin layers from the exact image planes in the direction towards a lens results in mutual phase conjugation of Gaussian beams when the self-oscillation threshold is exceeded slightly.
