Abstract:
A theoretical analysis is made of the polarization characteristics of the Raman and hyper-Raman scattering in gases under resonance excitation conditions. It is shown that these characteristics may differ very considerably in the resonance and nonresonance cases. It is also shown that polarization measurements can be used to separate the laser effect (or resonance luminescence) from the Raman scattering. A new system for generating far infrared radiation is suggested.
