Modulation instability in optical fibres with a non-Kerr nonlinearity near the zero-dispersion point

Abstract: A modulation instability in non-Kerr optical fibres near the zero-dispersion point is analysed. New modulation instability regions are found taking into account the fourth-order dispersion. The self-steepening mechanism differs for different instability regions and it varies with the critical modulation frequency.
