Calculation of the vibrational temperatures and populations of the laser-active levels of CO2 from the spectral distribution of the gain

Abstract: The gains measured at the centres of vibrational — rotational lines of the main bands of the CO2 molecule were used to determine, by the least-squares method, the populations of the laser-active levels and the vibrational temperatures of the active medium of a cw electric-discharge CO2 laser.
