Abstract: A new method is proposed for the measurement of the characteristics of short optical signals. This method is based on spectral expansion combined with temporal scanning by a streak camera, and on a special mathematical algorithm for reconstruction of the initial signal. The capabilities of the method are illustrated with examples obtained by computer simulation. An estimate is obtained of the dependence of the results of such reconstruction on the noise present in the measured data. It is shown that the temporal resolution of the method can be one or two orders of magnitude higher than the intrinsic resolution of electron-optical apparatus.
