Abstract: An experimental study established that the thermal self-interaction of radiation is the main mechanism responsible for the shift of the emission frequency of a hybrid atmospheric-pressure electron-beam-controlled CO2 laser emitting pulses longer than 10 μs. It was found that the frequency shift can be reduced by weakening the self-interaction in an optimal working mixture. A dynamic deformation of the lasing mode was detected.
