Abstract: It is shown that phase-polarization methods can be used in frequency control of the stimulated radiation emitted from semiconductor lasers if the active medium has an initial amplitude anisotropy. The Jones matrix method is used to estimate the difference between the values of the effective gain at different frequencies of stimulated radiation generated in the simultaneous presence of a magnetic-field-induced linear phase anisotropy and a dichroism of the active medium. Experimental results reported for injection heterolasers with the stripe geometry indicate that laser frequency selection occurs on application of a magnetic field whose vector is inclined at an angle of 30–45° relative to the electric vector of the output radiation.
