Abstract:
An experimental study was made of the scattering of laser radiation by a nonrelativistic beam of 2–3 keV electrons; the beam diameter was 1 mm and the electron density was 5×109–2×1010 cm–3. The scattered radiation was detected by the photon counting method and oscillography. The experiments yielded the dependence of the wavelength of the scattered radiation on the electron energy; the direction of the polarization of this radiation and the distribution of the electron density over the beam cross section were also determined.
