Abstract:
An investigation was made of the possibility of using solid solutions for continuous tuning of the emission frequency of electron-beam-pumped lasers. A method was developed for growing ZnxCd1–xSe and ZnxCd1–xS solid solutions and a study was made of their laser characteristics. Continuous tuning of the emission wavelength extending over 270 Å was obtained for ZnxCd1–xS samples with a composition gradient. The laser action threshold and the output power varied slowly within the tuning range.
