Optical bistability in a fluctuating resonant medium

Abstract: A system of generalised Bloch — Maxwell equations for a resonant optical medium is derived taking account of the adiabatic action of a polychromatic (white) noise source. A study is made of the influence of such noise on the appearance of optical bistability.
