Physical basis of quantum electronics

Gravitational self-confinement of a photon beam

L. A. Rivlin

Moscow State Technical University of Radioengineering, Electronics and Automation

Abstract: The mass of a photon beam, equivalent to its energy, forms a gravitational potential well (an induced waveguide) in vacuum and this leads to the appearance of a self-sustained photon jet in free space. A calculation of this effect, which is analogous to the familiar self-focusing of light in nonlinear material media, is made in the paraxial approximation.
