Amplification and generation of the second optical harmonic in a nonlinear active medium

Abstract: The process of generation of the second optical harmonic in a medium with quadratic nonlinearity is considered theoretically. It is shown that quadratic media are very promising as efficient second-harmonic generators and amplifiers, optical parametric oscillators, up-converters, and similar devices.
