Dynamics of the stressed state of matter interacting with laser radiation

Abstract: The results are given of polarization-optical investigations of the stressed state of condensed matter subjected to laser radiation. Shock waves, resulting from the fracture and decaying smoothly into longitudinal acoustic vibrations, are reported. It is shown that the dynamics of the process of optical damage is related to the development of the wave pattern of the stressed state in the irradiated matter.
