Abstract:
A report is given of an experimental study of generation of giant pulses in a neodymium laser with the aid of organic liquids inside the resonator. It is reported that liquids suitable for giant pulse generation have the Kerr constant in the range $0,4\cdot10^{-8}<K_\alpha<15\cdot10^{-8}$. An analysis is made of the mechanisms responsible for the formation of giant pulses and estimates are given of the conditions for the generation of such pulses; the results are in good agreement with the experimental data.
