Controlled image multipliers for optoelectronic memories. I. Studies of angular optical characteristics of an interference beam splitter with a polarization-plane switch
Abstract:
The angular optical characteristics are determined for a Brewster interference polarizer operating in a wide range of angles of incidence of converging light beams. The dependence of the polarizer transmission on the angular coordinates of a ray in a converging beam is derived. The theoretical dependences are compared with experimental results. The experimental angular characteristics are given for a polarizer with a liquid-crystal modulator utilizing the twist effect. Methods for improving the angular characteristics of polarizers and modulators are considered. The results obtained show that it should be possible to construct a controlled polycubic image multiplier for large-capacity optoelectronic memories.
