Abstract: Generation of geomagnetic disturbances is studied at the late stage of an underground nuclear explosion, where the originally displaced geomagnetic field penetrates into the explosion cavity again. The strength of the electric field of a geomagnetic disturbance due to oscillations of the magnetic moment is calculated. A method for analyzing records of geomagnetic disturbances is developed that permits one to take into account the character of quasiperiodic oscillations in the signal. The calculations are compared to results of the experiments performed in the state of Nevada in 1958.
