Abstract: A wavelet–based experimental technique for studying the structure of material surfaces is proposed. The basic theoretical concepts of the local–frequency and wavelet analyses are given. Examples of the wavelet analysis of model images are considered. The structure of briquettes obtained by compaction of titanium sponge is determined with the use of wavelet analysis.
