Mid–span deflection and end–shortening of a rod after buckling

Abstract: The load–displacement relations governing the postbuckling behavior are expressed in terms of elementary functions. An approximate solution of the elastica problem with modified expressions for the curvature is given. Equations of the elastic curve are obtained with the use of an approximate determination of elliptic integrals.
