Abstract: The flow past a cylindrical cavity on an axisymmetric body in the range of Mach numbers from 0.6 to 1.18 and the effect of the Mach number in the transition from subsonic to supersonic flow velocities are studied experimentally. In addition, a broad, 5.3–11.3 range of relative elongations of the cavity which permits one to determine the influence of the elongation on flow regimes including flows with closed and open separation zones is studied.
