Phase transition upon solidification from a liquid state

Abstract: A criterion that allows one to predict a priori a mechanism (equilibrium or nonequilibrium) according to which the phase transition upon solidification of a melt from a liquid state will occur is obtained. The fundamental possibility of experimental determination of the kinetic constant and the energy of activation is shown on the basis of the phase–transition criterion obtained and the solution of the problem of sequential nonequilibrium crystallization.
