Abstract: It is shown that fracture can be treated as a process occurring in the Finsler space. The use of the Finsler space allows one to construct a delaminated manifold whose characteristics are related to the defect structure of the medium. A method of determining the fractal dimension of fracture is developed using the concept of crack propagation along geodesics.

Keywords: fracture, thickness, defect structure, Finsler space.
