Abstract: A nonlinear diffusion equation describing a long streamer is obtained using a kinematic approach. A self-similar solution of the one-dimensional problem of the unsteady evolution of the charge-density wave is obtained. The main features of the process are analyzed. It is established that the obtained analytical formulas can be used to analyze experimental and computer modeling data for a long spark. A comparison of these data shows that the self-similar solution can be used to describe the deceleration of the streamer.
