Abstract: The effect of fracture kinetics on the character of velocity in the spalling pulse is studied theoretically. It is shown that the allowance for the growth of the medium porosity at a positive pressure, which is a consequence of inertial expansion of bubbles during cavitation, makes it possible to explain the experimentally observed increase in the spalling pulse amplitude to values exceeding the maximum velocity of the free surface.

Keywords: spalling fracture, cavitation, fracture kinetics, shock waves.
