Abstract:
It is shown that the process of nucleation in a small spherical volume of a metastable phase proceeds according to the classical scenario and does not lead (as ascertained in some recent publications) to any special role of the nuclei with nonequilibrium contact angle. An analytical expression is obtained for the activation barrier, which reduces to the well known result for the sizes of nuclei that are much smaller than the radius of a sphere of the metastable phase.
