Abstract: A new material based on thermoexpanded graphite (TEG) is described, which has been developed for special applications encountering the need for suppressing the radiative component of heat transfer in thermoinsulating materials. Results of investigations of the material structure by the electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy techniques are presented. It is established that the new material consists of anisotropic carbon particles with lateral dimensions on the order of tens microns and a thickness of about five carbon monolayers. Evidently, this structure is close to optimum for the claimed applications.
