Abstract:
A magnetic system that consists of a large number of coaxial modules with quasi-force-free (QFF) windings and equally loaded intermediate reinforcements is considered. The QFF windings are completely equilibrated in both axial and radial directions. Peripheral parts of the modules carrying poloidal currents are supported by equally loaded dielectric reinforcements. Calculations are carried out for a limiting case, whereby the number of modules is large and the thickness of each module is much smaller than its inner radius. In this case, the distribution of poloidal currents can be considered uniform, which makes the analytical solution of the problem possible. According to this solution, the ratio of the outer and inner radii (aspect ratio) of the magnetic system is close to the ratio of the magnetic pressure of the calculated field to the ultimate strength of the reinforcement material.
