Abstract: Investigations of the electrocaloric effect in ferroelectric materials are of interest for applications and of importance for an adequate description of the electrical properties of ferroelectric films, in particular, their switching dynamics. A theoretical approach is developed based on the Landau-Khalatnikov model, which can be used to describe the dynamic spontaneous polarization of a ferroelectric material and the influence of this polarization on the character of the temperature dependence of the electrocaloric effect.
