Abstract:
A new method of high-voltage glow discharge (HVD) generation based on the use of a discharge system with an electric arc grid plasma cathode and characterised by self-sustaining combustion due to the evaporation of collector material is presented. The electric power supply of VTR is provided from a single source and is a combination of two different mechanisms of current flow: arc current associated with evaporation of cathode material by the cathode spot of arc discharge, and smouldering current associated with evaporation of VTR anode material (collector), vapour ionisation and ion-electron emission from the grid plasma cathode electrodes.
