Abstract: Heat transfer during impingement of an impact jet onto an obstacle with a hemispherical cavity has been experimentally studied. It is established that the local heat transfer exhibits a significant (two- to threefold) decrease as compared to that on a flat surface. A probable mechanism of suppression of the turbulent convection is considered and possible methods of heat transfer control are discussed.
