Abstract:
Simple structural models and a previously proposed theory have been used for estimating bandgap widths, effective masses, and effective velocities of charge carriers in sheet- and zigzag-type nanoribbon and chain structures of 22 graphene-like A$_{N}$B$_{8-N}$ compounds. It is established that the decoration of nanoribbons and chains by A and B atoms leads to cardinal changes in the electron spectra of these structures.
