Abstract: It is shown that the scattering of electrons near the interface between the region of a glass that has been polarized in air and the unpolarized region makes it possible to determine the thickness of the poled region from the image furnished by a scanning electron microscope. A good agreement is demonstrated between the thicknesses found from electron-microscopic images and furnished by an energy-dispersive analysis.

Keywords: glasses, poling, energy-dispersive analysis, electron microscopy.
