Abstract:
Needlelike ZnO single crystals (whiskers) 0.3–0.8 mm long and 1–10 $\mu$m in diameter with a resistivity from 3 $\times$ 10$^2$ to 1
$\Omega$ cm have been grown under cw CO$_2$-laser irradiation. The whiskers exhibit weak electroluminescence caused by injection from contacts with participation of intrinsic defects, which affect the electric field distribution.
