Abstract: Composite varistors based on polar and nonpolar polymers (the matrix) and inorganic phase (dispersant) ZnO are studied. It is shown that composite varistors with a high breakdown electric field and a high nonlinearity can be developed by varying the physical structure of the polymer–ZnO heterogeneous structure. Nonpolar polyethylene and nonpolar polyvinylidene fluoride are chosen as the polymeric matrix.
