Abstract:
In LaF$_3$-Sm$^{2+}$ crystals, a broadband structureless luminescence band with a maximum at about 1230 nm was detected upon excitation into the region of 4$f$–5$d$ transitions in samarium Sm$^{2+}$ ions. By close analogy with the optical spectra of red luminescence in LaF$_3$-Eu$^{2+}$, the observed luminescence was attributed to anomalous luminescence.
