Abstract: The physicochemical properties of light-sensitive materials based on dichromated gelatin are considered. The chemical and physico-chemical processes occurring in the gelatin-water system during the production of the layer and recording of holograms are described. Various technologies for DCG layers formation are presented, as well as the most common options for their use in holography, such as the creation of hologram optical elements and in pictorial holography.

Keywords: gelatin, dichromated gelatin, ammonium dichromate, holographic optical elements, methylene blue, diffraction efficiency.
