Abstract:
As we have experimentally shown, the regime of frequency matching of counter-propagating waves in a Nd :YVO$_4$ solid-state ring laser can be switched to a new self-modulation regime by using the control element consisting of a quarter-wave plate and a magnetically active crystal in an external magnetic field. In the new regime, the intensity modulation frequency is proportional to phase nonreciprocity of the ring cavity. It is found that the emission spectrum in this regime is narrower than in the regime of frequency matching.
