Merging of photons in the atomic ion field

Abstract: The analytical structure, absolute values, and angular anisotropy of the differential cross section of the fusion of X-ray photons in the atomic ion field are theoretically predicted. The absolute value of the maximum of the “observed” fusion cross section in the proposed experiment with an X-ray laser on free electrons is estimated.
