Abstract: Mechanical metamaterials are artificial materials whose mechanical properties primarily depend on their structure rather than on the characteristics of the material from which they are made of. From the many developed metamaterial structures, a class of structures developed based on the art of origami can be distinguished. Origami is the art of paper folding, which allows you to create three-dimensional structures of varying complexity made of a flat sheet of paper. The paper presents general information on mechanical metamaterials, with a structure based on the Miura-ori folding method, discusses their areas of application, advantages, and provides a brief overview of research on such metamaterials.

Keywords: mechanical metamaterials, auxetics, origami, Miura-ori structures, deployable structures.
